pinterest

I spent a good 2 hours on pinterest yesterday planning my sister's baby shower. I love the ideas you can find there! Although I noticed yesterday that there was a lot of SPAM! I searched for baby shower and a good 60% of the pins I tried to click through to see the original post they came from actually linked me to stupid spam websites. Is anyone else noticing this? I'm not going to share all my baby shower inspiration just yet, I don't want to spoil the surprise for my sister!!

This week's edition of OHP is a mish-mash of food, clothes and just things that make me smile.

Perfect spring meal. I love that asparagus is back in season! I'll probably make this on Saturday!

Quinoa with mango and blueberries! Looks delicious but I'd probably switch up the fruits a little. I'm not a huge mango or blueberry fan. But the lemon dressing on this sounds delicious!

Pecan crusted chicken wraps with strawberries. This looks totally delicious.

I would like this house please! I love the green, the exposed beams, the HUGE bright kitchen...I'm just in love.

Looks amazing. Chicken salad with craisins on a hearty multi-grain bread.

Cardigan with a bit of pizzazz. I love that you can wear it open, belted or buttoned. It's super versatile and still super fun!

Do you think this bathroom would match the kitchen above? I would change the tile on the floor though. I adore the wall color and the mirror/cabinet!

I love this purse. I'm loving grey/yellow as a combo for this spring/summer. The bow is so pretty!

My favorite flower. This color combo is great for a spring party! Such great inspiration!

What are you pinning today?

birthday weekend

Friday:

I spent all day out at Kristyn's bakery Sugar Hoot. I was there by 12:30 and I think I left there at about 2:30 am. It was a long day, but time flies when you're hanging with one of your bffs and playing with cake!

Saturday:

I tried to sleep in a little bit but I wasn't successful. So I went with mom and Jess to go get birthday manicures. April 7 (which was Saturday) is both of my sisters' birthdays! Jenn turned 31 and Jess turned 26.  We went to the local hibachi restaurant for dinner. Jenn enjoyed 2 fishbowls and I indulged in two delicious margaritas. Over all, a great day and night!!

Easter Sunday:

First we had a big breakfast at my house with both of my sisters and their mates. Then we went up to my Aunt Tink's house for Easter lunch and the egg hunt. We had a blast. The day was capped off by everyone singing happy birthday to us birthday girls! It doesn't get any better than that!!

i'm busy

I'll be back tomorrow with a full weekend recap. Today I'm too busy partying like it's my birthday...Because it is my birthday!

here's to the freakin' weekend...

I will probably drink to that this weekend! It's birthday and Easter weekend! Such fun! I'm spending today out at the bakery and who knows what time I'll be back, but I'm hoping to get out with Mike. We're probably going to go see American Reunion when I get home.  I'm pretty darn excited about this movie. I loved the first 3 so I have really high hopes for number 4!

So this week our theme for Friday Fancies was flower power. I put together two looks this week in honor of my birthday celebrations and Easter.

Birthday look:
birthday dinner

Basic yellow tee shirt. There isn't anything more comfy than a basic cotton tee and yellow is just so fun and perky that it is a great color of celebrating!

Love this floral skirt. I have a thing for black skirts in general and this one is just gorgeous. It would also be super easy to dress up or down. I went with a casual look here but I think it could be gorgeous with some sparkle.

Love these Toms. I'm a big fan of wedges right now and they're the perfect balance between pretty and casual.

Um, it's a green wristlet, honestly does it get any better?

I'm loving these. I can't really wear sunglasses because I wear my perscription glasses every minute of the day, but if I could I would really want these.

Then the Easter look:
flower power

This dress is just perfect. I love the colors, the flowers and the length. I'm a huge fan of maxi dresses even if they don't look all that great on me. Perfect for a casual Easter celebration.

Gorgeous color orange. Since it is really only going to be 60 degrees this weekend, the sweater is a definite must have!

Gorgeous pumps and they'll be the perfect height to make that dress the right length. Plus, keeping the shoe neutral will let the gorgeous flowers on the dress shine.

Gorgeous bag. Perfect for spring time when you're mixing all sorts of colors.

I like these little flower earrings. I think they compliment the dress nicely without distracting from it.

Neutral eye shadow color palette with a bit of shimmer. This is perfect for a holiday celebration.

I'll be celebrating this weekend, will you?

wishing...

Just wanted to share a couple of the things that are on my birthday wishlist this year. There isn't much I need, but there are a few things I'm lusting over at the moment.
Sephora's Sun Disk Bronzer. This is my favorite bronzer in the world and I only have a tiny bit of it left. Not that I can't just go buy myself more, it isn't really expensive at all and it lasts forever. I've had mine for just about a year and half now and it's just running out! I love it.

I'm in love with this bathing suit. While I don't think I'll look quite this good in it, I still think it's the right cut/shape for my body. I love the bright colors in it too. Definitely a favorite. I also really love that it comes in long. But at $52 this will probably stay on the lust list.

This dress from Express is gorgeous. I've been in love with the green/navy stripe one they have for a while and I love this color combo just as much!

Oh my goodness gracious I love these shoes. I can't justify $80 on yellow mary janes, but that's what a birthday wish list is for, right?!

my, my that sure is pinteresting

My love affair with pinterest continues to grow. This week alone I found a bunch of inspiration for my sister's nursery on there, a recipe I'll be making for our Saturday night birthday celebration and outfits I'm looking to recreate.
Are you still in love with pinterest? Need an invite? Leave your email in the comments and I'll send one your way!

I love this outfit. On someone who looks good in shorts...Or on me if it was paired with jeans :)

I love this puppy and I'll definitely be making Coop a birthday cake this year. Good to save this recipe!

Speaking of birthdays - this brownie batter dip? I think it'll be perfect for the birthday celebration this weekend!

I think these shoes are perfect for a fun game night at home, right?

I think I need to try the breakfast quinoa. I'm a huge quinoa fan and this just looks delicious.

Loving these pops. I'm trying to figure out how I can incorporate them into the baby shower menu without them making a huge mess by melting all over the place.

I really want this table. I think I've posted it before, but its ok because really....Everyone needs ice buckets in the middle of the table.

Drinks? Yes please! It is birthday week after all!

I'm heading to find out what everyone else is finding pinteresting this week!

project nursery

Nurseries are a lot of work, and I'm not even the pregnant one. I give tons of credit to those of you who can actually do all of that work with a little one growing inside you.
Friday was dedicated to cleaning out the room. What is now the nursery was basically a "catch all their junk" room for the last 3 years. It is seriously amazing how much crap they accumulated in 3 years. We collected countless contractor bags filled with donations and garbage. They also sent 3 or 4 totes full of stuff up into the attic. It was crazy how much stuff came out of the room. But once it was (almost) empty, we had a plain room to decorate for Branson. At that point Jess and I went to home depot to buy all the supplies we'd need to transform the room from extra space to a baby boy's nursery. We bought 2 1/2 gallons of paint, 28 feet of window trim, 34 feet of chair rail, a couple roller pads and tray liners.

Then it was time for miss preggers to sit down and put her feet up while I got to work. I did a ton of taping and then started painting. She wanted the bottom half of the room blue and the top half tan with a white chair rail around the room. She also wanted all of the wood trim to be painted white. We also added trim to the two windows in the room and a chair rail. As a side note, most of the windows in her house have no molding around them. Is that normal? Her house is a cape cod from the 50's. We thought it was weird. The windows in the living room have trim but that is it. She's planning on adding trim as they update around the house room by room. Branson's room was the first to get updated!

I painted the blue on Friday night. I actually got two coats on before heading home and going to sleep.

When I got back to her house on Saturday morning, after she had a restless night of sleep, she decided that she wanted the chair rail moved up about an inch to be even with the window frame instead of below it like we had originally planned. Luckily that was easy enough to fix. I took off the tape and just painted about an inch more all the way around the room. Then I taped the ceiling and it was time to start painting the tan.

The room was bright orange when we started, so adding the more toned down colors was a huge change.
Once the blue and tan were done, it was time to start painting the trim and heaters. This was a much bigger headache than I anticipated. It took a very long time. Once I got done with the trim, I went home and slept like a log. This was a lot of work.

Luckily, it only took 3 coats(!) of paint!! Then Sunday morning it was time to get going on the window molding and the chair rail. Since I'm afraid of the nail gun and circular saw, my brother in law Dan and cousin in law Gordon came over to help with that. My role here was mostly telling them if it was even and holding it while they nailed it up.

Then it was time to clean. We had swept and wiped everything down when we cleaned out the room, but that wasn't even close to enough cleaning. I swept and mopped and scrubbed the windows and the floors. I cleaned deeper than I think I've ever cleaned my own house. I hung up the curtain rods, for which they don't have curtains yet - I'm making them as soon as Jess picks out the fabric she likes. Finally it was time to put together the little bit of furniture they have. Putting the crib together made it real. I also put together a little drawer chest they have for his stuff. They're waiting for Dan's mom to bring over the glider they got them for Christmas. Her shower is April 28, so I'm sure I'll have more pictures to share once they get a bit more baby stuff. I made some canvas art tonight that I'm going to hang up across from the crib and Jess decorated the letters of his name to hang above the crib.
So here it is - the final product!
The crib. Since they don't have bedding yet, there is a Disney World throw blanket on there.
Also, baby's first Mickey is in the bed.

Stuffed chicky and a lamp waiting for a shade.

The view from the door. The glider will go in the corner next to the chest of drawers.

Obviously curtains will make a huge difference. His name, Branson, will go above the crib.

His changing table will go where that fan is and we are hanging a clock up on the wall to the right of the window.

The three canvas art I made are going on this wall. The mirrors there are doors to the closet.

birthday week

This weekend was completely crazy. The past 3 days have been jam packed with cleaning, painting, some more cleaning, a bit more painting, some intense construction work and then a bit more painting and honestly, I'm pooped!
As a birthday gift to my sister, I took it upon myself to clean and decorate the nursery in her house. After I finished all I could do in there before the paint dried completely I went and helped mom cover up the terrible pink color in her room with a super soothing blue/grey.

But in much more exciting news, it's birthday week! Well, kind of. My birthday is a week from today, but both of my sisters' birthday is Saturday. So really we celebrate all week long. You need more than just a couple days to celebrate 3 sisters' birthdays!
I'll be back with pictures of the nursery tomorrow!
