dutchess county classic

Sunday was a fantastic day for a race, really we couldn't have asked for anything better!
In the weeks leading up to the race the Hudson Valley got an overwhelming amount of rain. Because of the rain and the subsequent flooding parking was minimal at the park where the start/finish line was located. They suggested getting to the park by 6-630 in order to get parking and start picking up your packets. They were closing the road that the race would start out on at 8am sharp. I live about 40  minutes from where the race was being held, so that meant that Mike and I set the alarm for 430 to try to be out of my house by 530 and to the park by 615. Let me tell you, 430 comes VERY early!! It was good though because the 3am wake up for Disney will be even earlier, so this was a good practice! We got up, got dressed, tried to consume a decent amount of caffeine, got everything together and we were out the door by 540, only a couple minutes behind schedule, but we planned for that. It was definitely still very dark outside when we left, it was E-A-R-L-Y and Mike and I aren't really morning people. With his nerves mounting and our anxiousness to get there, we had a pretty calm and quiet ride. We got there, got signed in and picked up our loot. Bags donated by Golds Gym, some running gloves and tech tee shirts. By 7 we were done getting our stuff and we stopped by the bathrooms and headed to hang out in the car for an hour because it was also COLD outside! It was only like 43 degrees out. Luckily I had also planned for that and wore sweat pants and a hoodie over my race gear.

So 8 am rolls around and Mike and I head to the bathrooms one more time and then to find my mom and Jess who were meeting us there to cheer us on. There was a 1 mile kids fun run that started at 815 and Mike and I wanted to watch them go. It was really awesome. It was a 12 and under run and the winner ran it in 6 minutes even. She was 11 and completely adorable.

So then it was time for Mike to head to the starting line. A few deep breaths and he was off for his 13 mile journey.

They told us 5k runners that we had to let them get 15 minutes ahead of us before we started our run, so I hung out with mom and Jess for 15 minutes and then I made my way to the back of the crowd at the start line. I was expecting to just use this as my long weekend run, even though 3 miles isn't long - it was a light/rest week. I started out and I was feeling great. I ran the first 1.5 miles at a 10 minute mile pace, which of course made me completely run out of steam! By the 1.5 mile mark/turn around to start heading back spot I was tired, that pace was way too fast for me. I walked a little and I was trying my hardest to get my heart rate down to the 150's, but it took forever. I ended up finishing really strong, maxing out at 9mph, way faster than I have ever sustained for any distance. I finished with a 2:32 minute PR.

After I finished it was about 20 minutes until the first half marathoner finished. The winner finished in 1:13 and change. After we watched him finish, we went and got me some food and water. They had a great assortment of deliciousness. I grabbed an apple and a water and headed back up to wait for Mike to finish. Mike finished at 2:26 and change (they still haven't posted official results yet)! I was so proud of him. He said his legs were killing him and he was a little slow moving, but we grabbed him some food and a water before heading out.

I loved this race. There were a ton of people and it was super well organized. We were stoked when we finished and really happy with the whole day.

i'm a lucky ducky.

I know a two year old who loves that phrase, I think it is the cutest thing ever. But really, I am pretty darn lucky. I'm in a very lovey and mushy, all I wanna do is snuggle up on the couch with my boyfriend and watch movies all day long kind of mood. Since we can't really do that, I'm just sharing some of my favorite pictures and memories I've made with him over the last year.

At the mall before seeing Bridesmaids, after my cousin's
Christening.

I'm seriously a lucky girl. Sometimes I get frustrated with him, sometimes I want him to stop talking and let me get stuff done, sometimes I want to hit fast forward so he moves a little bit faster...but I always love him. Even the things that drive me nuts about him make me love him. I was reminded this week by a few different blog posts that life is short. That I should take the time to stop and appreciate the amazing man that was brought into my life a year ago. I should stop wishing and hoping for the next step and just live every minute of what we have right now. I want to thank Katie from Keep Calm & Carry On and Sarah from Pink of Perfection for that reminder.
I love this man, and I am so lucky to know him and to be a part of our fan-freaking-tastic relationship. He is the calm to my crazy and yet he keeps me active and going on adventures. He's pretty cool!

At the Dennis Devlin 5k in Washingtonville, NY. We both ran, I
was just chilly so I wore the long sleeve t-shirt to stay cozy before the
race.

Gotta love a guy who still loves waffle cones at 32!
At Mary Janes, our favorite ice cream place!

On his pool deck on our anniversary!

At my cousins' graduation party.

Being super silly at a corn festival at Weed's farms in Marlboro, NY.

I love this picture. Snacking on cider donughts at the same corn festival.

This is my favorite picture of him. He is laughing hysterically because I kept taking random pictures of him. I love
him so much.
I love you Michael. xoxo

picture perfect

When Mike and I talk about our dreams and our future home he is very clear that the one thing he wants is a man cave all his own. I have always been on board with him on that. He has a few guns that he keeps locked in a gun cabinet. I would feel most comfortable if that cabinet was also locked in a room our kids wouldn't have access to. I'd love to get him a print like this to hang in his man cave. It is just so him.

independence day

Happy Independence Day! We have a family tradition of spending the fourth up at Lake Taconic. We barbecue and lounge in the sun and spend the whole day relaxing. I love the tradition. Last year at the lake was the first time Mike met my whole family. We had a great day just enjoying each other's company and playing in the water and sand.

Especially on days like today when people are spending all day in the sun celebrating with friends and family, I think it is super important to bring up the topic of sunscreen. I'm a sunscreen-aholic. The other day I found the girls over at Sun Savvy and I want to share their blog with you. I'm definitely an advocate for sunscreen and big floppy hats. So remember today while you're out there enjoying the warmth of the sun, to throw on a couple layers of sun block (every couple hours!!) and avoid the burn!

Top left to bottom right:

  • I love Banana Boat sport spray for when I'm running outside. I use crazy high spf because I could be out for an hour and I try to avoid a tan of any kind to avoid crazy lines from running tanks.
  • Hawaiian Tropic shimmer sunscreen is a new favorite. It has a very subtle shimmer that just makes me feel girlie and pretty. Perfect for dates to the beach or outdoor shopping excursions with the girls.
  • Aveeno sunscreen is some of my favorite. The price can get a little bit crazy, but it works like a dream. I splurge on the face sunblock because I have crazy sensitive skin and I get breakouts at the drop of a hat.
  • Not sunscreen, but perfect for when you want to fake it a little bit. I love the Sephora sundisk. I am addicted. I use it almost all year round for a subtle glow.
  • Supergoop! I recently fell in love with this every day lotion! With a pump like this it is perfect for using daily. It is meant to be a daily lotion with the addition of spf 30! Amazing!
  • Lastly for when all your efforts are for naught, my favorite is Hawaiian Tropic cool aloe and I.C.E. It is aloe gel with lidocaine. It combines healing and soothing with the cool help of lidocaine. Perfect for when your skin is burning off you!

wedding bands

My favorite
I don't just swoon over wedding bands for me, but for Mike too. I think we spend just as much time in jewelry stores looking at rings for him as we do at engagement and wedding rings for me. We have similar taste and I'm not sure what he is going to want for real, but we both agree that it will be engraved with "for infinity" and our wedding date. A few months into our relationship, soon after "I love you"'s were exchanged, Mike and I were sitting in the mall and I told him I loved him, and he responded "for infinity." It has been our thing ever since.

I'm guest blogging over at à la mode today! Go check out my post about my dream wedding! Much love to Jenna! Thank you for the opportunity!

anniversary

Spending the day by the pool
Mike and I celebrated our first anniversary on Saturday. I can't believe it has already been a year! Way back in January we decided to put some money aside and splurge on us for our anniversary dinner. The restaurant Terrapin in Rhinebeck is completely amazing. They focus on local and natural foods as much as possible and that makes the quality of the food so much better. It isn't fancy or the type of restaurant where a shirt and tie are required by any means, but the food is completely amazing. Apparently the Clinton's agree, as Terrapin catered Chelsea's wedding. Mike and I had an amazing day full of love and hugs and kisses. I couldn't ask for anything better than him!

It doesn't get much better than this.

Menu at Terrapin.

Mike at dinner...Swoon. he's gorgeous.

Dessert we shared, molten chocolate cake. Yum!

Clearly we liked it.

Very happy after dinner

I have so much love for him.

grilled pizza

One of my favorite times with Mike is our at home date nights. We make dinner together, spend some time hanging out just the two of us. For tonight's dinner choice we went with grilled pizzas. I grilled some red onion slices and some red bell pepper as the toppings while Mike ran to the local pizzeria to buy a pound of dough. I shredded some mozzarella cheese and got everything ready. By the time he got back the vegetables were ready and the grill was hot and set to go.
Pizzas on the grill

Love that freshly grated cheese

Nicely grilled (then chopped vegetables)

Nice grill marks, they were so incredibly delicious.

Plain pizza, and let me tell you, that dough was delicious!

Mike enjoying some of the pizza.

What could be better than pizza and beer?

Sheldon agrees! He wanted some too, but we weren't sharing...too delicious!

Happy date night!
